Ancient Magic by kjpzak www.hgnetwork.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=5338 Love is the most ancient form of magic there is. Harry and Ginny begin to discover they may have a love that will endure forever. He Who Must Not Be Named certainly thinks so. Could their love be the key to fulfilling one of his greatest wishes? PG - Post-OotP - Angst, Fluff, Humor, Drama - Warnings: Sexual Situations, Violence - Words: 38201 Completed: Yes - Chapters: 12 - Published: 01/25/2005 - Updated: 03/08/2005 Blood of the Heart by kjpzak www.hgnetwork.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=60377th Yr Sequel to Ancient Magic. It is now known the power of immortality resides inside Harry and Ginny. Will their combined powers be enough to protect them from the Dark Lord? PG-13 - Post-OotP - Angst, Fluff, Drama - Warnings: Death, Violence - Words: 168330 Completed: No - Chapters: 25 - Published: 03/27/2005 - Updated: 10/10/2005 Jim's review: These two stories span 6th and 7th year. Both are extraordinarily well written, with the characters very well done, and have a compelling story line. Ships are H/G, R/Hr, and two new characters as well. The most interesting aspect of these stories are the way they explore the nature of the blood protection Harry got from his mother, with an interesting theory as to how it enabled him to survive, and other blood protection that is revealed as the stories progress. While these are also published on Mugglenet, I've provided the SIYE links instead, as SIYE updates quicker than MNFF (the second story is a few chapters shy of completion), and SIYE has, I feel, a better user interface as well. Enjoy, I know I am. Katy is truly an extraordinary writer.

The Chosen One II by lecook4 www.hgnetwork.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=8422This starts right after the funeral and takes them home and to the Dursley's. Harry has to go to Headquarters for an important meeting and then is given a package and an answer by Aunt Petunia. He leaves and joins the Weasleys, including Ginny for the Wedding where he has a horrible surprise. Voldemort comes after Ginny and Harry is out of the picture to help. Harry goes after the locket and the Weasley boys go after Ginny. Secret loyalties are discoverd too. Tragedy befalls the Weasley clan, or does it? It is time for the Prophecy to be fulfilled. Any resemblence to the up and coming Book 7 is sheer coincidence as this is just my own personal flight of fancy. PG - Post-HBP - Angst, Fluff, Humor, Tragedy, Drama, General - Warnings: Death, Dark Fiction - Words: 117687 Completed: Yes - Chapters: 17 - Published: 08/25/2005 - Updated: 10/09/2005 Jim's review: A really nice book 7 effort. Worth your time.

i read "ancient magic" over the weekend and you're right, jimbocous, it's fantastic! i haven't finished reading "blood of the heart" yet, tho i'm several chapters in, and i can't wait to see how it turns out.
her ideas are so interesting - such a different, deeper take on the ties that bind and protect harry. even though she strays far from canon, that does not make the stories any less believable or engaging.
thanks so much for posting links to both of these stories! they really are amazing!

Ships! HG RH SSOC RLNT, Rated M for language, for mild sexual situations and for violence Harry Potter - Fiction Rated: M - English - Action/Adventure/Romance - Chapters: 16 - Words: 216604 - Reviews: 772 - Updated: 6-22-05 - Published: 5-4-05 Sunset Over Britain bobmin.fanficauthors.net/Sunset_Over_Britain/index.html[COMPLETED] by BOBMIN Rating: Mature (Roughly equivalent to an R rating in the US or a 18 rating in the UK.) Genre: Action/Adventure, Angst, Drama, General, Romance Year: 6th year and beyond. Word Count: 363,209 Chapters: 25 (NOTE: You must have a free login at fanficauthors.net, a site I highly recommend, to read the fics posted there) This is completely different type of story from our other two. Dumbledore orchestrated the deaths of the Potters in order to fufill the prophecy. And he's been stealing from Harry. This story is entirely AU. Follow an angry, very powerful Harry as he and the ministry work to bring Dumbledore down. Ships include Harry and Hermione and others. Jim's Review: Even if these stories were no good, they would be worth reading simply for the author's disclaimers at the beginning of each chapter. Frankly, Bob and Alyx are hilarious! The stories are rated M for a reason, so if that's not your thing, be warned. But note, in this case M means Mature, not porn. Sexual matters are presented, but tastefully done. These stories are tough, gritty, and real, as is the language used. And, on some occasions, I literally had tears running down my face from laughing so hard. You've been warned! These people are writers. The prose is clean, simple and powerful. The grammar is tight, typos are almost non-existent, and in S.O.B they also add a little bit, called their Pet Peeves, at the end of each chapter, describing the most common mistakes and annoying things they see in fanfic, again delivered with a biting sense of humor. If you want to write, these are worth reading and taking to heart! If you're looking for a writing team to hire, I'd bet they're interested ;D

Harry Potter and the Blood Traitor fanfiction.mugglenet.com/viewstory.php?sid=15290by Huskers [COMPLETED] Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, a blond Weasley. It's Harry's sixth year. Voldemort is back, yet strangely quiet. A second prophecy. This is my version of what happens next. The whole book is written, along with all of year seven. I will post as fast as I can get the chapters past the moderators. Story is now complete. Look for the sequel, I will be posting the first chapter tonight 6-2-05, and it usually takes 4-5 days for the mods to approve it. The title of the sequel is, Harry Potter and the Unlocked Mind. Category: Romance Fics > Various Pairings - Rating: PG-13 - Warnings: none - Chapters: 21 Published: 02/25/2005 - Updated: 05/28/2005 - Harry Potter and the Unlocked Mind fanfiction.mugglenet.com/viewstory.php?sid=23792by Huskers [COMPLETED] Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione struggle to fill their roles in the two prophecies. Time is growing short and the finally battle looms. Who will decide where and when it takes place? Will the foursome find the key to Harry's victory in time? This is the year seven sequel to, Harry Potter and the Blood Traitor. Read that first, or you will have no clue what is going on in this. Please review it for me also. Now that HBP is out, and I have continued to post my story, Harry Potter and the Unlocked Mind, I thought I would take a second to say this. Unlocked Mind will not be modified in any way to accomodate any of the cannon from HBP. Unlocked Mind, while not posted, was essentially finished before the release of JKR's book. Any similarities that my version of year seven has that may tie it to JKR's version of year six are coincidence. Epilogue submitted today, 9/1/05. Story is now complete. Category: Romance Fics > Ron/Hermione AND Harry/Ginny - Rating: PG-13 - Warnings: none - Chapters: 22 Published: 06/02/2005 - Updated: 09/01/2005 Jim's Review: While marred a little by a few spelling, typo and grammatical errors, these two works were probably the first really good HP fanfic I stumbled across when I developed the bug last spring. What's interesting here is that you can see the growth of Steve, the author, as a writer from chapter to chapter. The first chapters of Blood Traitor are perhaps a little awkward and stilted. The last chapters of Unlocked Mind are as powerful and polished as anything you'll pick up off the shelf. What's really wonderful here are the ideas, whole new takes on the canon JRK has left us (ignoring HBP), new and unique ideas as to how the plot develops after OOTP, and some very subtle threads that run from chapter to chapter and even from the first to the second book. I found myself going back and rereading Blood Traitor, and then Unlocked Mind, and as I did I got a much better appreciation as to just how sharp and tight the plotting was in both books. A great example of what a writer can acheive when armed with a detailed, well though out plot outline from the start. You never get the feeling Huskers is unsure where to go from any given point, and that confidence makes you want to read more. Like JKR herself, the author plants a lot of seeds early in both books that only become important later on, something that makes the reading, and the anticipation, much more interesting. As a side note, for a very different HP style, read his "Broken", a post-Voldemort series of one-shots, also available at Mugglenet. The author's stated ambition is to be published as an author of original work. With any luck, you'll be buying his books. Blood Traitor and Unlocked Mind are both brilliant pieces; don't miss them!

White Knight, Grey Queen By Jeconais [COMPLETED] jeconais.fanficauthors.net/White_Knight_Grey_Queen/index.htmlRating: Teens - Roughly equivalent to a PG13 rating in the US or a 12 or 12A rating in the UK. Genre: Action/Adventure, Romance Year: 2005 Word Count: 226,047 Reviews: 699 Chapters: 8 Summary: When Pansy finds herself on the wrong side of Voldemort, she persuades her parents that only one person could help them. Harry. A story that looks at what could happen if Harry had someone who loved him, someone who would push him, and someone who would back him financially. Jim's Review: Jeconais is a very prolific writer, and choosing which of his work to highlight here is a tough one. Like everything else I've seen posted on fanficauthors.net (rapidly becoming one of my favorite sites for fanfic), the writing is top-notch, clean and tight. This story picks up where OOTP leaves off, and carries the story through the final battle. Don't be fooled by the small chapter count (I ended up reading all night, and still had to grab some sleep and come back later for the final chapter). This work is huge; the final chapter is 57k words, and I'd have liked it even longer! While this is solidly in the JKR world, Jeconais is also influenced by some of my other favorite writers in this and other pieces he's written. If you've read Robert Heinlein or Frank Herbert, you'll feel right at home. While the Harry/Pansy pairing seems pretty weird at first, Tim carries it off wonderfully, with a couple twists about Pansy that I'm sure you'll enjoy. After all, when dealing with Slytherins, nothing is ever as it seems. There are several other shorter stories on his site that are "outtakes" of this story, which are worth checking out soon as well.

Published: August 24, 2001 (between Goblet of Fire and Order of Phoenix) - Updated: June 14, 2005 Jim's reviews: For anyone interested in the dynamics between Harry and Draco, these three stories explore them better than any pieces I've read. Events throw both boys into circumstances where they not only get a better insight to each other but must cooperate and try to learn to be friends. Needless to say, this path is not without it's little bumps. Sparks fly, and gradually a shaky and hard-earned trust is established. Cassandra is very insightful as to what makes each of them tick, though Draco gets explored a little more than Harry does, as you might expect. Contrary to the description, ships are a big part of all three stories, though they are not necessarily the ones you might expect. One interesting feature of these stories are the hyperlinks embedded in the story which link you to original fan art. Well worth checking out a few! Several folks have referred to these three stories as the best HP FanFic they've ever read. I'm not sure I'm ready to go quite that far, but I've enjoyed each enough to put them on my "must-read" list. Be sure to read them in order.

Harry is recovering from his captivity, but he’s hiding how much it’s effecting him. With his powers increasing, and Voldemort now aware of the prophecy, can Harry find the secret to destroying him before Voldemort learns of the existence of these ancient texts? Category: General Fics - Rating: PG-13 - Warnings: none - Chapters: 33 Published: 03/24/2005 - Updated: 07/10/2005 - Completed: Yes Jim's reviews: Another very credible pair of stories, covering years 6-7 and beyond. Melinda has a real knack for capturing all the characters. Feels like reading JKR to me. One interesting note: when reading the second book, remember this was completed before HBP was published. (how's that for a teaser? ;D Tight plotting, and a very believable theory as to how the whole thing might have ended up. A must-read.
